September
- Fall is the best time to plant cool weather vegetables.
You will get the best yield in fall on vegetables like;
broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, and other cool weather
plants.
- Cut back any summer annuals or perennials that are
done blooming. Fill in that space with some fall color.
- Mums, Pansies, Snapdragons and Fall Magic annuals
are arriving at most garden centers.
- If you have plants that need to be transplanted now
is one of the best times to do so.
- Most perennials need to be divided every few years.
If your perennials are getting too large for their area,
split them in half.
- If you have not done any mulching this year make
sure you get it done now. This will help retain water
and suppress weeds.
- Spring bulbs need to be planted in the fall, so they
are ready to bloom come spring.
- Place any tropical plants inside that you want to
winter over. Make sure you treat the plant for insects
before bringing it inside. We do not want any bugs inside.
