August
- Summer is still going strong. Make sure that you
continue to water more deeply and less frequently.
- Start planning your garden for the cool weather plants
and vegetables.
- Mulch any bare areas in your landscape. This will
help keep the soil cool and help the soil retain moisture.
- Keep your lawns looking good by making sure that
it is at least 3” tall. Cutting it too short will
make it burn in the summer heat.
- Keep an eye out for any insect or disease problems.
- Correctly identify the problem and treat it with
a product that is for that specific problem.
- Pick herbs for fresh use and for drying. Harvesting
will keep them growing longer.
- Take pictures of your garden at peak. Take pictures
of container combinations you'd like to repeat.
- Prune summer-blooming shrubs (hydrangea, clethra,
caryopteris) after flowers finish.
